I don't get it. We just took our final…tomorrow we get to sleep in and then review our tests and give impressions of the class in general (or…can choose to go on early-morning field trip to the bookstore operated by Oman's ministry of culture and heritage. But. Sleep. Between running around outside the hotel lately in a sadly feeble last minute attempt to squeeze in everything I'd swore I'd do again before I left, and staying up at night for no good reason other than my inability to stop talking…ever…I'm feeling that sleep might be in order)
Took one of the PFs out to lunch yesterday with some friends. We went to Bin Atik, which is supposed to be a traditional omani restaurant (and I guess it is…I mean, they serve instestine. Not that I have ever had any desire to eat intestines in this country. But still). We got a private room and sat on the floor and I even revisited my roots and ate with my hands. Then I remembered that sometimes I like to use spoons while eating rice.
At the end of the meal, our PF stood up and held out the box he had been carrying the whole time, which he told us was something for his sister's wedding. I had believed him. Because I have very little awareness of the world around me…anyway, he gave us all 'friends forever' keychains and I almost started crying and my friend almost started crying and then he started to tear up and left the room and it was a huge mess and awful but also wonderful and AHHHHH I'm going to miss the people here!
We went back and pretended to study. Mostly, I had a lot of tea.
My roommate has been watching a insightful and meaningful American tv show on MBC 4 called Summerland. It is about surfers and we learn life lessons from it. So we naturally needed to take a studybreak for that…then one of the PFs came by to take some of us to the souq (market). While we were waiting for him to show, I brought out my flashcards and started quizzing my friends…one of the guys in the lobby (a taxi driver that we had driven with before) kept trying to interrupt us and figure out why my friend was drinking water even though it was cold outside. Well, you know. We Americans and our wacky ways.
The souq was fun. Went back to visit my BFF (who runs an incense store and remembered me from last year). Did a little shopping, learned a little Omani dialect, tried my best to stay on task.
When we got hungry, we decided to walk to pizza hut (I did the tally. I have been there four times in the past two months. I like their seafood pizza. And I have NO desire to revisit once I'm home).
